Water can quickly destroy your property and leave you overwhelmed, devastated, and not knowing what to do next. Here are some tips from CBC Cleaning and Restoration on what to do when you have a water damage emergency in your home:
First and foremost, your safety is primary so check for electrical hazards and possible falling debris. You will then want to preserve, protect and secure your property and belongings from further damage by relocating them to a dry, safe place.
1. Read your insurance policy: know what’s covered and what isn’t and what your obligations are before making contact with your insurance company.
2. Document the damage: take pictures of the structural damage and affected contents before the emergency service begins.
3. Begin Mitigation: you don’t have to wait for your insurance company to recommend a water damage professional! Call CBC right away!
4. Get it in writing: Ask for a written scope of damage from your insurance adjuster and mitigation company. If these two vary greatly- ask that they come to a compromise and resolve the price difference.
